The Hampsteads are the original settlers of this region, at least the original human settlers and oldest family. They have had little contact with the outside world now for three generations and view all outsiders suspiciously. To them the entire town is full of outsiders, with the possible exception of Barnabus Barnes. Of all the newcomers they trust only Fal’grid and Shindara. They have no trust at all for the Rieta, the Baily, or anyone on good terms with the Fixture family. In addition, they view anyone and everyone associated with the recent pirate war such as Asara and the Drukas family suspiciously.
Jane Fixture of the Shady Oak Inn has a crush on Jezzek Hampstead, the 17 year old son of Samaal Hampstead. They have been secretly meeting in the forest just west of Hampstead Farms, and this meeting has been observed by denizens of Pahal Pahal and The Fellwood. This relationship is frowned upon by both the Fixture family and the Hampstead family. The Fixtures view the Hampsteads as inferior bumpkins who will always live in poverty. The Hampsteads view the Fixtures as outsiders and interlopers who will bring only evil and destruction through their greed and commerce.
